EF 6cyl intermittent Starting Problem

Hi, About 2-3 times a week, the ef has trouble starting.. Ie, turn the key, it cranks over, coughs and just about starts. Turn it again, and it starts beautifully.
As i said, it only happens about 2-3 times a week max. So its hard to pinpoint, as i never know when its going to happen.

its on petrol, not gas, *usually run optimax*, has just been serviced, (spark plugs, leads, etc) and battery is fine.

Any ideas ?

Re: EF 6cyl intermittent Starting Problem

My car has a similar problem. I find however, that if you turn the ignition on and off a couple of times you will build up pressure. Should start first pop.

Just out of curiosity, did you or have you, ever let it run well under 1/4 of a tank of fuel?

Cause that's what I did and it started like yours. Its worse now but...

All the best
Matt

Re: EF 6cyl intermittent Starting Problem

yeah it has run under 1/4 tank alot.. *sometimes ya just cant help it*
recently i changed the fuel filter, and the pump *pump about 6 mths ago, as it shit itself*

maybe i have dirty injectors... i might look at getting new ones/ getting them cleaned.

i honestly thought it was something electrical, but the more i think about it (the more you guys reply), it could well be something fuel related

Re: EF 6cyl intermittent Starting Problem

Well maybe you may want to look at cleaning your tank before getting the injectors done, as if it is crap that blocked them in the first place, chances are there will still be crap in the tank after injector cleaning, and it will be a problem then just waiting to happen again.

I have seen people post prices for new injectors which are comparable to getting them cleaned, so maybe new ones will cost the same as cleaning if you look into it.

Re: EF 6cyl intermittent Starting Problem

ebxr8240 , yeah well it hasnt done it once since i made this post, Problem fixed? possibly... Going to **** up next time i go to start it next to a commodore full of ppl? Most Likely.

zbenga, I replaced the fuel filter hmm about 6 months ago, but i didnt have this problem then.. so it might be worth a try.
Im guessing its something commonish for e series.. as ive heard a fewppl talking about it.
