Hello All ,
I broke a drive belt today so when and got a new one but when I put it on.
I noticed that the Crank Pully sat out further than the other pullys ?? which leaves the belt on the pully above ( The lower tensioner pully ) rubbing on the aluminium arm that the pully bolts to.


Any Ideas

Oh dear.

Somebody seems to have stuffed the reassembly somewhere. Got a free weekend? You'll need it. See if you can get a manual somewhere as well.

Well I'am not sure I've had the car for 3 years and it's had no work done on it except oil changes ect
And it had only done 50000km approx when it bought it and the belt that just broke has been on all that time ???????????????

It was probably the previous owner -- or somebody posing as a mechanic. I wouldn't worry that the belt lasted for so long -- they only break when it's completely inconvenient.

Silly question: does the new belt make an angle with the pulleys? If NOT, then the bracket(s) have been installed wrongly. If YES, then see my first reply. All the pulleys must line up like soldiers on a parade ground -- or things will go wrong.

u need a new balancer by the sound of it... the rubber lets go

Yeah sounds like the Harmonic Balancer seal is gone which is pushing out the balancer. Im pretty sure Bursons sells one for 90odd bucks with the seal allready pressed on which can save alot of hassel.

EFmatt... please finish this story as I am having the same problems now with my EF. Did replacing the harmonic balancer fix the rubbing on the aluminium tension arm proble.
