EF/EL Fairmont Ghia

I have recently just bought a 96 fairmont ghia... i would like to know if it is a an ef or an el? also i have been told that fitting extractors and headers i can boost fuel economy because of increased air flow aswell as an increase in power...

Re: EF/EL Fairmont Ghia

Hello,

The EF was 94-96 the EL was 96-98. In the sedans, the EF had a clear rear indicater lens, the EL amber. The EL had a dizzy, the EF did not. Also, the EF had the ash tray door hide the cig. lighter. Some of these bits may have been changed by a pevious owner, but this should help you work it out.

Re: EF/EL Fairmont Ghia

If you get headers fitted, make sure the primaries are the small ones, such as the 38mm (i think) for the Pacemakers, or get Wilcats or similar. Also have the zorst fitted with a 2" pipe from the muffler back. If not, and you decide to use the 41mm style primaries, have a restrictor fitted inside the cat.
The reason for all this is that if you don't do this, and simply fit a 21/2" all thro', you will lose all your lowdown torque and "driveability". It will be great from about 2500 onwards, but who drives around at those revs all the time?
