thinking about buying a low k's EF engine to put into my EB,not too concerned about the EF intake or coil pack i will be ditching those to put my EB ones on.
so basically it will be EF block with EB intake, power steer, altenator,AC pump etc.
will i have any problem with this arrangement?
also, whats the best way to take out the engine?
with or without the manual gearbox
I find it easier to do the engine/box as a unit when putting them in.
Particularly with the manual, lining up the clutch in the car is a right ^&% of a job!
settled on a EL block 90,000ks,problem is the EL distributor TFI is pointing toward the shock tower, where the EB one is facing toward the front headlight.
should i change it or leave it.?
cheers
the belt does go on, but i had to remove the air-con because its differnt on an ea compared to an ef. the way to get the belt working is to get an idler pulley, got mine for around $80 out of an xh i think. the clutch fan also has to be replaced with thermo fans,(dont use a vn commodore fan, it's too small) and either au or el is what i'm thinking, but it costs about $300 for the fans and about $250-300 for the contoller and relays etc.. ouch$$. if i knew this i probably would have just used a ed. cheaper and less complicated. but i find the ef is quieter and a bit faster. i'll have to have a play around with the inlet, so far i've put in a pod filter and it goes better than the old ea airbox, and am now cutting a larger hole in front of the intercooler to get more air in. also the exhaust sounds louder when the turbo's going, i don't know if its coz of the EF or the pod filter.
ye the cover had to be swapped because the tensioner would'nt fit on the cover there are some ribs that go from bolt hole to bolt hole, so i decided to swap them
i had to grind the inside of the EB altenator bracket to make it fit the engine.
the EL one fit no prob but pulled the altenator one inch backwards so the belt wouldnt line up
started the engine yesterday afternoon tappets were noisy but they quieten down after 1/2 hour
he he.
