Ok, now bare with me cus this is going to be hard for me to explain....... I've had this problem with my EF for a while now and was expecting it to be cured recently when the head gasket was replaced and a brand new radiator was installed, unfortuneatly those repairs had little to no effect on the problem (regardless of how bloody expensive it was...). So the problem, whats happening is that while sitting stationery in gear the engine is quite rough, rumbles a bit and get as close to stalling as it can without actually stalling, it always manages to increase the revs and stop itself from stalling. I also find that it doesn't take long for the engine to start running very hot, the temp guage always sits right at the very high end of normal (never out of the normal range though), if I put my hand out of the window just below the mirror i can feel the heat in the air from my engine and its very hot. Regardless of all the above the car always makes it to work in peak hour traffic (takes about an hour) and doesnt have any issues unless i am sitting stationery in gear, neutral isn't much better. If anyone has any ideas as to what could be going on I'd love to hear em, sorry if my explanation of the problem isn't very technical, i'm far from being a mechanic!
judging by the fact that u can feel the hot air from the window, sounds like your thermo fans are kicking in ok... so that won't be the problem, you may find that the time when the 2nd fan is turning on is when the revs drop a tad, i know the revs drop momentarily about 100rpm when the 2nd fan comes on @ about 3/4 temp guage.
can't think of a reason it'd be running hot if the radiator is new and its just been done.
any coolant loss?

Ok, so that noise that that I've been wondering about is the thermo fans? Is it normal to be able to feel hot air coming off the engine? I have no coolant loss at all. I was thinking maybe something was wrong with the thermostat but then discovered that it was replaced with the head gasket.
Try the ISC valve on top of the Throttle body. Take it off, run some carby cleaner through it and put it back on. Also, give it a apprentice tune to clear out all the crap and it should run better.
Isc valve is on top of the throttle body. It's has attached a silver round container some 4cm diametre and 10 cm long. This is the solenoid for the ISC valve, which is attached to the ISC valve itself. Remove it with a 10 mm socket, undo the phillips head screws and put the solenoid to one side (round thing), take the rest and clean it out. Old toothbruches and pipecleaners work well here.
The apprentice tune? Take it for a flogging mate :). Find a bit of freeway, and floor it up to 100 a few times, but make sure the motor is warmed up first.
the loud hum that u get from the engine bay when the temp guage hits about 3/4 is the 2nd thermo fan, and yeah, its hard to miss :) blows a lot of air, you generally can't feel the air coming from under the car or anything if just the single fan is running.

Hey, you might want to check out a thread I started recently with similar problems. It goes back to basics and includes pictures because I had never done it before. Just so you know, the ISC is in a different spot to the pics of my ED, but it looks the same so you should have no trouble finding it.
they could have put in a thermostat that is too hot for the motor - there is probably 10 or more different temp range thermostats available that will fit the ford thermostat housing.
also, wind up your base idle a little if cleaning out your ISC doesnt fix the prob.
winding up the base idle is easy, you should find a little screw that acts as a throttle stop - you should find it easy when doing the ISC job, once its back togather just wind the screw in half a turn or so - maybe even one turn, then go for a drive and see how it runs.
