EF Falcon loud ticking noise while cold???

Hey guys im hoping someone can help. My 95 model EF Falcod has developed this loud ticking noise while motor is cold. It goes away after 5-10 mins after start up. Of corse if i start motor which is already warm there is no noise. This loud ticking noise increases in speed with increased engine rpm. Any ideas what it could be and if it will be expensive to rectify? Thanks heaps...

Re: EF Falcon loud ticking noise while cold???

i had a similar problem... turned out to be a ring gear bolt which didn't cost much to fix. i hope that it is not anything else..
get it checked out as soon as you can and don't overload the revs until you do

all the best

Well as far as i know its most likely the oil tappets as it circulates oil round the engine.... Check your oil level as it could be a bit low and thats why its taking so long to circulate, causing the tappets to work loudly for so long.

Re: EF Falcon loud ticking noise while cold???

Give it a good oil change and then add some oil additive to it that will cling onto the moving parts that should fix your problems.
I have some special oil treatment added in my oil ,it's expensive stuff but you can leave your car idle for weeks start it up and there shouldn't be any rattles or ticking noise, and it also protects your engine from wear.
Cheers John

Re: EF Falcon loud ticking noise while cold???

it sounds just like a few lash adjusters have blead down over night if it's really bad use a engine flush then drain the oil thin with the new oil add some "lifter free " or similer i use it in my work shop it works 9 out of 10 times
of if that don't fix it u can pull them out and replace the sealing cups on them

No im taking about a product called MSP (Molecular Science Products) it's American you add about 10% of this product for the first time and then you add about 5% there afterwards after every oil change cost about $60 for the first time.

Re: EF Falcon loud ticking noise while cold???

I have a simialr thing on my ED. Once she heats up its gone. Only happened after I changed my oil and put some STP stop leak in it to stop a leaky sump gasket. Needless to say, I aint trying it again.

EDIT: Awesome number, post 351, oh yeah!
