hey guys my EF futura has suddenly developed a poor idle when cold, started it this morning and drove to work ( everything was fine ) hopped in the car this afternoon only to find a rough idle, once the car warmed up it was fine. I let it cool down and went for another drive to see if it was consistent, sure enough, rough idle when cold, fine once warm.
I will probably be replacing the fuel filter on the weekend and checking the spark plugs but I am wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and found the solution? any help would be good guys

I took the plugs out today and they where pretty clean, white-ish
I gave them a clean up, checked the gaps and cleaned the leads, fired her up and its running a little better
kinda just pops through the exhaust every now and then
COuld it be the coolant temperature sensor? I've noticed its always ha d a bit of a flatspot when cold, also the coolant warning light doesnt work

Ok ive just been playing around with it, it seems that when i disconnect the sensor on the thermostat housing and start the car, the temp gauge will max out, the fan will kick in full blast ( thinks its overheating ) but the car will actually idle properly. any ideas?

I have had that problem since a second hand engine had gone in my car.I changed fuel filter ,replaced coolant sensor ,map sensor, ego sensor, replaced ics, replace tps,new battery, cleaned throttle body, cleaned battery terminals, cleaned ecu relay...clean injectors...
I ended up getting it leak tested at ford and it confirmed 2- 3 cylinder had a leak but was not losing coolant.Forget pressure testing of cooling system, mine showed nothing wrong.
I ended up with another engine yesterday under warranty and this morning it started first go without bad idle.
Do yourself a favour ..get a leakdown test,it will show the condition of the engine..
I dont think it will have anything to do with the mechanical side of things as its only got 112,000k's on it, but then again you never know. I might take it to ford to get the codes pulled out to see if anything is causing an error.

Well its running like a bag of Sh*&
I checked spark and its g etting a nice clean spark from all leads, so I will replace the spark plugs tomorrow and see how she goes. Its not losing any coolant, no smoke out the exhaust, no milky oil, no sweet smell or anything so it seems to be ignition related

oh well I replaced the spark plugs and it runs slightly smoother, just has a constant putt-putt fromn the exhaust at idle. It seems like a spark issue to me, smells rich, I'm thinking leads or coil pack
