I have just finished a dyno run to have al look at A/F ratios, because i have just had a 12 month old cat collapse on me i assume due to excess fuel because there are no dents in the body of the cat
Unfortunatly my scanner is buggered, but the highest a/f reached was 11.0, compared to the ideal of around 13
Run started at 12.1 at 72kph and gradually richened up to 11.00 at 170kph
Dyno man says that if i was to put a malpassi rising rate regulator on they could lean it out to correct levels
My question:
Does anyone else have any other ideas i thought theat the non xr's ran a diffrent reg. would this be any good for what im after
Ps. The car made 125.7 rwkw
Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks
Ash

You could just change to a std non xr pressure regulator which would lower the fuel pressure fairly cheaply. An adjustable one will take a bit of setting up and control which is not so obvious. Thats why the Unichip just knocks back the duty cycle and adjusts the mixture despite the fuel pressure as long as its high enough for full throttle and yours is in a big way.
the guy said about $200 for the regulator, $120 for setting it on the dyno and then adapting it to fit the rail is extra
So the std one would work fine ?? i should have turned this into a poll

Ive used the standard one before on my EL XR6 and noticed that the car definetly feels smoother and seems to have a bit more power. One great thing was turning on the car and not having the garage stinking like a petrol station. One bad thing is that up around the high revs (just before redline in the last couple of hundred revs) it would pop sometimes.

so was it pinging with premium std reg. and a timing change

Anyone else have any info on the diffrence between std and xr pressure regulators, i want to look into this as much as possible before i do anything, alas what ever way i go i will get it set up and tested on the dyno

The standard reg flows 270kpa and the XR one flows 300kpa.
Re: Pre-detonation. Doesnt ping at all mate and definetly runs smoother. I pickup up the regulator from a wreckers for $65 bucks compared to Ford's $170 for a new one.
