I'm looking at an EF XR6 but the owner has rebuilt the oil pump and most of the gear that assists in the oil plumbing system. He;s also replaced lifters, power steering bearing and air con equipment. Does anyone know how regular these problems are and if they're "normal" on this car??

No not normal at all. My EF has done 220,000k's and the only thing that has gone on the engine is the water pump bearing. Oil pumps are great if you have used good oil and changed it every 20-30,000k's. I use castrol R synthetic and the pressure is always good. Just dont hit the brakes hard @ over 180km/h cause you loos oil pressure.
Even after this many K's on the clock the engine has next to no wear. So for this engine to have an oil pump rebuilt it's a bit strange.

i have experiance in air conditioning and the ef falcons do have a few problems with condensors leaking, the compressors also fail but usualy because of low gas levels. e:g water cooled engines rely on water to keep them cool and a/c compressors rely on cool gas coming back to them to keep them cool, faulty tx valves also cause compressor failure. as far as oil pressure problems go i wouldn't buy a car with that many faults.

Yeh 9psi EB i do change it sooner than 20-30,000k's, but at 5-10,000k's castrol R is about $70 for 5 litres plus a racing filter which is $20, it kind of gets expensive.

If he's done all that work to the oil system, there is one simple reason - he thrashed the car. He might have done it for two purposes:
1) The oil system broke down because he thrashed it/didn't change the oil/ran it dry
2) He changed it to supply volume while he kept the motor at 6K revs.

Either way I'd be very very careful right here...
