Hey guys! This is my first post! :D Anyways i was just wondering, as im soon to be getting my first car, whether to go for an EL or AU? Plz keep all the suggestions in laymans terms as i dont know a great deal bout cars, but i know a bit about cars, if you know wat i mean???? Also, i wont be doing alot to the car, all i was thinking was big shiny wheels, extractors, sports exhaust (another question, is it possible to have a twin exhaust on an EL or AU? i think that would look mad!) and yeh that about it. So any help guys will be much appreciated :D
I'd recommend an AU2, even have a look at buying from auction. It's a buyers market. You would get better power and it would be cheaper to stick with a single exhaust. Are you after a 6 or an 8 cylinder?
Also, have you seen what wheels you would like??

As for which car it is entirly up to you, personally i like the EL shape better than the AU, AU still looks good and its growing on me more and more, but i love the smooth lines of the EL. EL's can be found fairly cheap these days and dont take a lot to have them looking trick... sapphire blue colour, lowered, tinted windows, 17" mags and u got a real looker. mechanically the engines are pretty much similar albeit a few differences but overall they are both reliable, smooth cars... all depends on what u want but i would go a EL Futura! good luck!

go for a 100-140 thousand km AU2 forte. should be able to pick one up for around 11-13 thousand at auction. duel exhausts arnt easy as the fuel tank is in the way on the left hand side. 17" wheels... well its to you, but the tyres wont be cheap.

EL pros
1. a tad more reliable than the AU series 1
2. Definately cheaper to repair than an AU
3. Cheaper on the s/h market as they are the last of that body shape
4. Don't have a coil pack and problematic power windows
AU pros
1. The AU2 are very refined.. big brakes, factory 16" wheels, DD head units
2. More current looking body shape
3. Slightly more get up and go than an E series
4. An AU1 can be made to cosmetically look like a AU2 resonably cheaply
If you gave us some idea of your budget and how long you intend on keeping the car that would be helpful
budget would be around the 10k-15k mark and yeh i intend to keep the car for a fairly long time. and 1 more thing, why is it so hard to find manual falcons!
Biggest advantage of the AU is the fact that ford have pretty much overcome the headgasket issues which plague the E-series, that being said, both are great cars if they are kept well maintained, I myself will be buying an EF/L within the next few months, whichever you decide, go for a well looked after, low K example and you should be fine

They are out there, but hard to find..... most people optioned the auto. You can convert an auto car to manual, but it would take a chunk out of your budget.
But for 15k, you could get into an AU2 easily.
