my ea falcon, cpi, 88 3speed auto, has no power at all, when i put the car in drive it takes about 4 mins to get to 60km.h, it is very sluggish, i havent even got it to 100km.h yet, it wont even drive over a rock. i have checked oil , water, and trans oil. All is good. i did the self diagnosis check last night and it told me that the MAP sensor is faulty or circuit to MAP is faulty. Would the MAP being faulty cause the car not to have enough power to run over a rock.
Map works on throttle postion, engine load and a number of other factors. Just reving it without any load may not be an issue.
As for wiring being the problem, no idea, you'll need someone who knows exactly whats going on to look at it.
Best bet is to swap it for a working one, any wrecker will have a good unit for practically nothing. First check the vacuum hose to it, these do fall off as the rubber gets hard and old.

wreakers here ask for $40 for a working one... that is alot for me at the moment, especially if it doesnt fix the problem.. i exchanged it with a map off a mpi ea and that didnt fix the problem, but i dont know if the car was working before. and yes i have checked the hose (the first thing i did)
:)
would the map be the only thing causing the car to have no power ??
All sorts of things.
MAP is the same EA-EL, CFI and MPFI. So not that then it would seem, unless the wiring's damaged.
Next best bet is probably the fuel pump/filter. Try changing the filter, an EA is much easier than the others, just use a standard Z32 (from memory) fuel filter, $10 tops. Filter can be found at the base of the firewall on the passenger side.

fuel pump changed in december, yes with the cfi one. i will give the fuel filter a go but that was changed in july last year. what i want to know is the self diagnosis test said probs with the MAP, so i need to know if the map is causing this problem before i spend $40 to get another one. any other things i can be looking at ??
i think your right mike but if i find out the map is faulty would that cause the car to have no power !!! i know the map stuffs up the idle and fuel consumpsion but is it my problem :-( ??? that is the anwser im looking for ..
