Question Engine/Trans mounts on EL S/Wagon

I've started to hear a clunk/thump occasionally on my 97 EL S/W - under power across a bump etc which I think is the rear trans mount sagging and allowing something to hit the underbody somewhere (sounds like rear passenger side floor).

The car is getting close to 250K klms - what is a typical life for the mounts and is it a major job to replace them myself at home ?
