Howdy ya'll

I've been putting up with it for a while, but is there any way to get rid of a faint ticking noise at idle coming from the extractors?

I heard today that it was charactaristic of these engines with extractors.

Anyone else have this?

And i do get the loud ticking at cold startup. is that some of the problem?

cold start ticking is just the time it takes to pump the lifters up with oil, and i do have the same extractor noise, and its a ****, no way to fix that i know of

i was just thinking...
would the original heat shield cut some of the noise?
coz the guys that put my extractors on removed that shield along with the old manifold.

could be the problem hay??

I hear that the orig heat shield requires some bending or some modification to bolt back on over the extractors. hmmmmmmm.

i dont think its the extractors, ive got the same prob....ive been told its your tappets ticking away.

put your head in the engine bay (if your game ) and you might notice the noise isnt coming from the extractors way.

I've got a similar sound coming from mine. I think it's either the lifters or tappets (or whatever else is under the rocker cover

) or possibly an injector. I've heard thay injectors can click too when they fire.

I find it annoying but I live with it...

Best way to get rid of it is to get the head redone, or replace it. Had the same problem in my old XF and every told me to get the head redone. set you back about $200.

I'd say it is your injectors, my g/f's pulsar's injectors are quite noisy and I have noticed mine do it a bit too.

Lifters are normally quite noisy and sound rough, not faint as you described.

Sounds to me like the lifters, if it was the extractors I'd suggest the gasket was leaking.

Try using an oil with a higher hot viscosity, like a 20/50 or something, see if that fixes it. Lifters do tick when they get a bit older but 9 times out of 10 this will cure it for a fairly long while.

The injectors tick at least mine do got alot quieter wuith new ones though

my injectors tick away, and my extractors make a whistleing sound when acceleration.
