have a 1984 ford xf sedan. which seems to be overheating. have replaced the radiator, what else can it be? it also has the air con radiator in it as well. to me it seems the normal radiator is starvin for air as the air con radiator is blocking it. also am thinking thermostat. what temperature hermostat should i be running in it with air conditioning?

the vehicle is fine driving around town but on the highway the temp gauge keeps goin up well and truly over half way then i back off on the gas pedal to let the temp come down. what could be the prob?

If it's only getting hot on the freeway, that rules out the fan. Try replacing the thermostat. I ran an 82 degree in my turbo 4.1 and it worked well. Did you check that the air-con condensor was not blocked when you did the radiator? Is the radiator a good brand(Natrad or similar) or is it a cheap Chinese import? Make sure the cap is holding pressure. If everything here checks out okay, if it's an old water pump, the impeller blades might be stuffed. Good luck.

It also could be a blocked exhaust or retarded timing. Does it go alright?

same problem here a while ago. change thermostat, dump coolant and replace.

am replacing thermostat now with an 82 deg one. as the thermostat in it was 88 deg. will let u know within next few hours if it has fixed the prob.

1. Did radiator block test.
2. replaced thermostat 82 deg
