Have just had another motor fitted my xf. however when i picked car up from mechanics the water pump is leaking coolant. the mechanic said i wuld need to buy another water pump as the gaskettes cant be replaced? is this correct? or can i just use gasket silastic to fix the problem? can you e mail me with some advice. mechanic charged $579.50 to swap motors over as i supples the other motor that wanted fitted. 7 days late i get the car back from the mechanic. am not a happy chappy. also had to tighten the fuel line up to fuel pump as they didnt do the nuts up tight. but now i just wanna get the water pump to stop leaking. its not a small leak or a large leak but leaved a good amount of water under car.

Depends from where on the water pump is leaking coolant from. Waterpumps do wear out, and yours may or may not be worn out.

Have you found out how much it is for a new one??

the pump is leaking around the gasket area from water pump to motor. was told that the inner gasket can not be replaced. is this correct

Waterpumps for the 4.1 crossflow are pretty cheap..Id replace it at the same time as fixing the gasket...cheap insurance, as they can leak sometimes from the inner seal/bearing breakdown.

pick one up for $50 - $60 new at your neareset auto parts shop.

Should come with a new gasket as well for the block mounting.

thanks gus, pulled me waterpump off today stuck gasket silastic around it. not leaking now but an gonna buy a new water pump.
