Hey Guys,

Since I have fixed the little problem I had with the old girl with a new fuel pump she seems to be using an absolute crapload of fuel ..............

I used to be able to get into town from here with the fuel light on ...... not anymore

I ran out of fuel the other day about 2k's out of town ......

I have reduced the idling speed ....... & it seemed not to use as much fuel ....... but it still is using way to much

Does anyone have any idea on why she would be using so much fuel now ?????

Could it be injectors ............. it cant be normal ......... even the v8's Ive had havent used this much fuel ...........

possibly a fuel line has a pin hole in it and when there is pressure in the line it could be leaking fuel. my mates EA Fairmont use's a bucket load of fuel to on short distances we are still trying to find the problem and are yet to check the fuel lines but i think he's has a leak. (and a heavy right foot) hope this helps.

Just to tell a story here,

I replaced the fuel pump in my EB at one stage. I forgot to tighten the hose clamp on the fuel line coming from the pump and all that was keeping it on was the way the hose was siting. It was practically pumping the fuel out. Check that. I only found out because I could faintly smell fuel. The locking rings also need to be done up really tight before they stop leaking. That wont be a problem unless you have a full tank.

Perhaps they fitted a MPFI pump instead of CFI? This would raise the pressure, meaning you get more fuel in there. id have thought youd notice black smoke out the exhaust though...

High flow fuel pump will not make a difference, unless the injectors are leaking out fuel, otherwise all extra pressure fuel, goes by retun line to the tank so it doesnt matter.

Also MN, the best way to stuff a fuel pump up is to run it nearly empty then to fill it. They get quite hot and the fuel plays a part in keeping the pump cool. If theres next to no fuel in the tank then you go and refill with nice cool fuel it stresses the pumps being cooled quickly

I've been getting about 50k's to about 20 ltrs of fuel .............. A mate of mine dropped the idle a bit & she seems a bit better on fuel ........ but is a b!tch to start ........I did 50k's today on about 15ltrs .........

I know I will have to get him to raise the idle again tomorrow .........

Is just one thing after another ..........
