I have an xd 4.1L alloyhead six and am thinking about getting it ported.

How many hours does it take to do a decent head port?

Whats the average cost?

What power gains should i expect?

Should i go and put bigger valves in and would this make more power and noise?

Its not worth doing unless you have a good intake and exhaust/extractors.

Im in the process of getting mine done and costing around $300.

Will go good coz i got a stg 3 cam and chip.

If you were looking for a small performance increase i would bother porting the XD head. Find your self a late model XF EFI C2 head, these should have bigger valves, closed chambers etc.

My opinion anyway.

How longs a piece of string??

Most head porters have various levels of porting and they work out their charge at about $60/hour PLUS.

If the porter knows what he is doing you would be looking at anywhere from $300 to $500 for mild porting.

My friend ported his own head, it was cast iron and took him about 10 hours, he was very particular about the job and took a lot of meat out of the combustion chambers.

But i'll think i will get an carby xf head instead of an efi and put on a 350 holley with manifold.

Are the carby xf heads as good as an EFi head for flow and same size valves.

The efi heads fits with the carby manifold- i have one on my car.

How much would i expect to pay for the efi head at the wreckers, what should i look for to tell if its stuffed or not and whats a rough estamate of how much power this would give me?
