I want some head work done on my el xr6.
my options are: buy new head and get it ported local.$1100ish. Or get a dev 5 head/svo head.$1400ish
Whats the best way to go.
Im leaning towards the svo head due to having a stg 3 crow cam(svo cam ish). Might be matched together?

Get a head and get it ported locally, that way you can get it done to exactly your specs, so you can have something a bit different to an SVO / dev5 head.
Just my opinion.

in my opinion, just get your current head done, i had an argument with one of the guys on here, (i think it was gm destroyer) about price of porting... i had my stock eb head ported/cleaned up, full set of bigger valves fitted, 2 spots welded, machined, my crow springs fitted, new stem seals -i supplied them, bead blasted, cam tunnel honed, k-lined inlet and exhaust guides... and it only cost me $630. i had to post a copy of the invoice in the which cam to get thread, before he would beleive me... im so happy with the work, and the dyno results. im from adelaide, where you from, you could get the same guys to do it...
the only thing i didnt get was a flow figure cos they only got the head together at 4:30 on a friday arvo, ran out of time to flowbench it...spewin

nope wasnt me,
i think you may be refering to fordboy1996.
630 bucks is cheap for what you got though,
svoxr6, get it done localy by a reputable headporter, ask if they have had experience in doing the sohc motor cylinder,
ur best bet is to start of with a au cylinder head, no big valve boss in the way, nice skinny valve stem and the chamber design is quite nice. plus the fact that its the best sealing head for the i6.
if you have trouble getting hold of one, i can supply you with one for around 1300 exchange flowing around the 350-360hp mark. pm me if you are interested.
good luck mate and keep us posted on how you go and where you go.
cheers.joe.

Re: Head work
BLOODY OATH it is..
we have one flowing here @ 425 hp but even getting to the 380 hp mark is big bucks.
a 425hp head is around 7-8k package. with tuned length custom extractors, new inlet billet cam, verneir cam gear, head bolts , gaskets new valves, valve springs and retains are also custom made and supplied and fuel system. basicly everything except for ecu.
the above is for a 300kw engine.
cheers.joe.
