I am having trouble starting a newly constructed alloy head efi engine where the computer is a haltech F9. I have a good spark and the computer is picking up all the engine data, there just doesn't seem to be any fuel. The pumps are all working and there is high pressure fuel at the regulator, but the cylinders are dry. The injectors should be firing in multipoint mode. After a bit of cranking yesterday i had a look at the injectors and noticed that #1, #2 and #6 were quite hot as were the wires leading to them, the others were cold. Am getting some duty cycle and about 12ms of injector time in the display? Would anyone have any ideas how I can test the injector function?

12ms injector pulse, too much i think, should be around 2.8ms

Do you smell any fuel out the exhaust at all? if not. you could have the fuel regulator hooked up backwards (seen it done, fuel doesnt hit the injectors)

Injectors should be cooled by the fuel.. so they should never get hot.

Wiring getting hot.. thats a worry. I'd really go over the wiring again.. make sure you've done it by the book.

But, i dare say its something to do with the wiring considering thats getting hot.. Also, drop your injector time down to at least 1.5ms until you work this problem out

thank-you for replies. I rebuilt the injector loom this afternoon. It turns out three were being driven by one driver, thats fixed now. The injectors are now firing, fuel is getting in the cylinder, have a spark but still not starting. It may even be flooded now if that is possible, so I'll check the engine timing and have another go tomorrow.

if its flooded, you will smell unburnt fuel out the exhaust.

timing checks out 8 btdc, smell of unburnt fuel in exhaust, fat spark, injectors clicking merrily, turning over nicely, just won't start.

Pull the plugs and dry them off or replace with new plugs.

then crank the fuel settings right back to start it and the richen it up, as long as it's not under the load the engine will be fine and it's not liek your gonna run it lean for too long anyway. How many injector drivers do you have, 2 or 3?
