I hate CFI!

Well plugged in a LED and ripped the codes from the computer after replacing the MAP.

Showed stored errors from when I unplugged the various sensors testing for differences... Air and coolant temp sensors, map, ics... so erased those.

Did the KOER test and it showed that both temp sensors and the ICS were faulty... and nothing about the HEGO I unplugged.

Getting really weird results and its still spraying a pile of fuel down the throttlebody.

If I decide to chuck the CFI.. will i need another comp?

Re: I hate CFI!

Faulty temp sensor will cause a rich condition. Is it the sensor, the wiring, or the computer?

MPFI conversion requires another computer as the CFI will not idle properly.

Re: I hate CFI!

i put a resistor back on the water temp sensor to make sure.. still ran the same. No batteries for the multimeter, so cant test each sensor as yet. The CFI has never run right from the start so want to chuck it.

Re: I hate CFI!

Yeah CFI is evil and must die :)
I usually get $150 for an EA MPFI setup, or $300 for EF, just to give you an idea.
Easy enough to change, certainly.

Re: I hate CFI!

Alex: Your price sounds MUCH better than the wreckers up here.. they all want around $400 for just the manifold and computer and a small section of loom.

6pac: what bits ya missing and how much?

Re: I hate CFI!

I have the manifold, TB and fuel rail. you can have the lot for $120

You will still need some extra stuff like injectors and wiring loom and such, um I may have a TPS but no fuel pressure regulator Rollin has mine in his car.

Re: I hate CFI!

Which model came out with the 4 litre? was it ED? Thinking about sourcing one of those 2nd hand and whacking in instead.

I think the Head Gasket is gone too.. (just compression side).. and the endfloat on the crank is like 5mm and wobbling back and forth badly on idle.

Asking the boss about money and other options in the morning too.. decide whether i spend the money or wreck the car.

Re: I hate CFI!

You could also use an EF/EL/AU motor as it will bolt straight in. Use the ED injector harness on the intake manifold.
I recommend you keep the car (hah, big surprise ) For the price of a newer secondhand one you can make yours very fast and very reliable.

Re: I hate CFI!

Well I have my fingers crossed for a BA XR6

Depends what boss says 2moro.

Otherwise i'll probably go the newer motor after a bit of saving and really see what the T5 is capable of!

PS: sad thing.. 3 weeks ago after a retune to fix the bog down after lending the car to a friend for a week.. the thing was spinning wheels in 1st and 2nd and felt like a turbo cut in around 4000 revs. Now it wont even idle!
