hey as the title says i want 230 rwhp, i am about to buy an eb xr6, and ive got money to spend on it straight away, but im not to experience with what to do. ive been looking at the jmm kits and the dev3hl looks good but its still not as powerful as i wanted, but its a big price jump to the dev 4 with head work, is it best to do the dev3hl and then get headwork done elsewhere?
what stuff would i need to do to get 230 rwhp? any info would be appreciated.
nah thatll be to much for insurance, id prefer n/a. if that guy could get 201 rwhp without a cam 230 wouldnt be to hard. would it? if i got just the dev3hl kit what 1/4 mile time would i be looking at? itll be a manual by the way. i ideally want to do about 14.5 on the quarter.
Seriously, even with a cam and all the mods getting 230rwhp is not a simple task, nor is it going to be cheap. If you insure with Justcar it is probably cheaper to do the turbo/SC and insurance that going the whole hog n/a and still having to insure with Justcar as most other insurance companies wouldnt touch you.
Also, remember that Kerry got 201.1 with an XR6 motor which already had an improved cam (over a standard I6) and a bit of head work.
Can it be done? yes. Is it going to cost a bundle? Oh yes!
Hmmm, I'm, not sure it's going to be easier for him to supercharge/turbo. Sure it's it's easier to produce those numbers with a blower, though the hassle with setting it up properly and insurance etc, is certainly not easier.
There is one very worthwhile benefit to having an NA engine, and that is the stock look.
And as far as money is concerned, it's going to cost a packet for the blower too, either way if you want power, it costs money.
The JMM stuff will get you close to that power figure, and you don't lose any significant low down torque, with mid range torque being excellent and top end astounding.
Rick.

What's that?..... Did I hear you say TQE power?
Go the JMM stuff, start with the Dev3, and add other parts as well.
Thermos would free up some power, and run quieter.
3.7's or 3.9's for a bit more punch off the line.
Look at your intake pipe, either look at a pod setup, or an XH ute snorkel
Also will depend on the condition of your engine, and a full service to ensure it's running at its peak.

Thats around 175rwkw, Big ask from a drivable road car.
The big point here would be drivability, yeah Soxx has 161kw, in a pretty good package, but to get any more out of it , you would need a very wikld cam, maybe Jim Mock, Dev 6, which he does not recomend for the road.
The Dev 6 makes all its power up at the top end of the rev range, and in this case you would loose out on torque(everyday Drivability).
The next big question, is why do you want so muck from you six ?
You could try fully programable sequential management, but the dollars would be big.

Looks like i'm going to go for the Dev 3HL + block building work + intake and exhaust for my EL XR6. I'm aiming for not much more than 150rwkW (~205rwHP). Then again this is going to be on a '97 with 210,000km on the clock so the block building work is possibly required considering its going to be a club track car :)
