Inline 6 4.9

Thanks for all replies in advance. My son has a 4.9l inline 6 that is idling rough and has some hesitation when accelerating. We have put on new wires/plugs, Idle control unit and set the timing without improving the problem. How do you check to see if the catalitic converter is good? EGR valve?

either a van or a truck. ford produced 4.9l 300cid inline sixes for a while and used them in vans and trucks. I have a 1993 f150 with the 4.9.

Re: Inline 6 4.9

Year & model would help, and a location would solve some confusion. How much fuel pressure does it have? How many miles on the fuel filter/coil/TFI? When did this symptom appear, and what preceded it?

You can use a vacuum gauge to check for exhaust restriction, but it takes a gas analyzer to "check" the catalysts.
