ok so im putting in a cam....how do i know i have the cam on the right place on the timing gear i mean i can get it in roughly the right place but if its one tooth to either side thats bad....so anyone got some tips?

i thought when cyl 1 was at tdc there was no lift because it is just about to ...or just has fired??

im just not sure how to get the cam exactly in place.

You can just bolt the cam to the cam gear (it only goes on one way).

1st cyl should be at top dead center before you start. The mark on the cam gear should be 3 deg above top of the head for a stock cam (on the righ hand side - head on). Put the rocker gear back in, then you can start fine tuning with the vernier.

As long as you start with cyl at TDC, there should be no problem. I will be pretty obvious if you are a tooth out. There is a picture in my gallery showing how it should line up. I took the picture from the wrong angle, but you should get the idea

as he said, and on tdc number 1 the mark on the gear should be just above the head, and number 6 rockers should be rocking the number 1 cylinder rockers wont be rocking
