Mettallic Knock?????

My EA 5 speed has a knock that seems to be coming from between the gear box and the diff, or somewhere around there. It is hell hard to try and find exactly where it is coming from. It is loudest in the back left seat. It vibrates your feet! Ive checked the diff out and it seems fine. No pitting in any of the bearings or cogs. The universal joints are fine. The noise is most evident when, say you are in third going 60 or so, and you progressively back off the throttle taking the load off, and at a point where there is nearly no load and it goes knock knock knock pretty quickly and pisses me off. This happens in every gear. Generally doesn't go away when you put the clutch in, but goes away instantly when you take her out of gear. I think the gearbox needs an overhaul, but then I had a terrible thought, could it be a big end bearing???????. Id hope that the noise couldn't travel to the back of the gearbox through the axials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Mettallic Knock?????

Does sound like rear UV's to me but could also broken shock mount, broken spring, or worn rear suspension bushes

Re: Mettallic Knock?????

Yer, I checked it out when I had it on the hoist, there isn't anything wrong with the mount.
