ok a couple of days ago i baught a new battery for it and im pretty sure its too small.

today i tried to start it for the first time in 6-8months and it started first time (was very hapy). let it sit at about 1500rpm for a good 10 mins and then let it idle for a while. for the first 10-15mins it was blowing smoke out of the exhaust (expected). after that the engine would start every time without a hiccup. and run fairly

a couple hours later the xf would just refused to start. it keeps trying to kick over and start but it just cant.

is this that battery i just baught causing this ? or is it something else.

If the engine is turning over more slowly than before, it is probably the battery.

Just recharge it and see how she goes. If you have a multi meter check the battery voltage should be between 12.4 and 12.6. Any lower than that needs a bit of a tickle up.

You can get digital multi meters for around $10 now at you local "Cheap and Nasty" warehouse. They are all you need.

Or you can get a decent meter for nore like $100 - with duty cycle/hold/peak etc. on it. Good investment if you take an interest in automotive applications.

your cca's (cold cranking amps ) should be about 480+/- thats what mine is and starts fine every time .check that if you think its your battery ,and it should have arround 50-60 amp hours aprox.

if ya car just keeps on turning over get a new coil most auto places keep them in stock of about $60
