just wondering if any one knows the cause for noisy hyraulic lifters. They have been replaced about 15,000km ago and they have been noisy on and off since i have had the car back. Some times they are noisy for a few a few seconds then it goes away and other times it lasts for 5 minutes or more. its very random and sometimes you wont hear them for a few weeks.
Thanks in advance

dirty or thin oil, dirt in the oil can get struck in the lifter check valves allowing oil to seep out. Is the head reco... the valve heights may be wrong.... Did they fit ef/el rockers 2:1 ratio lifters or Au lifters, as the au lifters have less travel, and may tick

What viscosity oil are you using?
I have found; if the hydraulics are OK, the cause is a too high a viscosity oil.
Seen good results from using a 10W40 oils with a CI-4/SL rating, depending how bad it is you may have to go with a 5W30 for a while. Use a synthetic oil. The CI-4/SL rated oil is a very high detergent based oil.
thanks people. First off ill start by changing the oil and oil filter see if that helps. Not too sure what rockers were fittered; im guessing they would have been ef ones. Not too sure if the head has been reco'd, i know its done a head gasket and a head bolts; dunno if the head would have been reco'd then. thanks once again

How loud are they?
Are you sure its the lifters?
They may also need shimming.
Check the noise isnt coming from you injectors, as E series injectors can be very loud if they need a clean
I have a weird ticking noise from the top of the engine after the car has been sitting for a while. It goes away after a few seconds of idling tho. It has happened fairly conisitantly for the last 15000 kms and through two oil changes. (one at the dealership 100,000 Service). Car is Oct 97 EL Falcon Wagon.
Thanks and sorry for stealing the thread...
