Lately I've noticed my oil pressure gauge (Autometer type) is sitting on or slightly above 75psi all the time. It never used to. It always sat around 50psi. Also the engine seems down on power lately...are the two problems related?

Does really high oil pressure mean there's a problem with your engine? The gauge only goes up to 100psi.

I have always wondered this

I know a stock guage has two red bits at the low and high end, which im assuming to be 'bad' areas (especially for low pressure)

I dont see how a high pressure running around your engine would be doing it any good, but am at a loss to explain it technically. Someone smart please?

Mines been running high the last week.. starting to wonder if the head gasket has blown slightly through to the oil galleries??

well mine coz the water level just suddenly started dropping and i think the HEGO is reading wrong from water vapour.. and oil pressure suddenly started reading higher at the same time.

Is the oil milky? Water oily/scummy?
Does sound like the gasket....

Oil seems fine for now.. but haven't driven the car much at all since it played up. Haven't even bothered to check water yet either.. just closed the bonnet and left it.

Will investigate further on the weekend
