Just wondering if anyone else had noticed this. When I leave my car overnight, and start it the next morning, the oil pressure light stays on for probably 1-2 secs after starting the car. Although it doesn't seem like much, after a long period of time it may cause some extra wear. The motor has done 171,000, and the problem has only been happening about the last month or so. It is a tad noisy, just until it gets oil pressure, then quitens down. I leave my car at weork all day (8 hours) an there is not problem when I start it after work. The last thing I want to do is rip out the motor to fix the oil pump! Any ideas? - thanks

If I was you I'd try putting in an oil with a lower cold viscosity rating.

This is very common on ford 6 cyclinder engines even with lower kays then yours. You can try running a different oil to reduce this problem, i have had success with Penrite HPR 40.There are a lot of cars out there which take 1 or 2 secs for the oil light to go out just keep a note to make sure it does not get any worse

Go for an oil with a low cold viscosity (eg the 5 in 5w 40), but don't go too low in hot viscosity - 40 or even 50 is good - because otherwise you might get the other side of the coin - the oil light coming on when it's hot because the oil has thinned too much to maintain pressure!
