soon im buying an ef/l head and sending it to a head place. i am just going to give them $500 and the head and say get the most power u can for the mon ey.

how much power do you think i would get extra by doing this

the rest of the engine is
3.9 block and bottom end
st3 crow cam
2.5" exhaust + genie extractors
K&N filter.

ultimately i am looking for about 160RWKW with those mods listed above and possibly a BBM is that power possible ?

Get an EF / Early EL head as late el had an au style head with smaller valve stems.
160 RWKW is a bit of an over estimate id say more like 130-140 RWKW with those mods. you will probably need a chip to retain idle with that cam too.

Bigger valves would be a help - depends how much ca$h you want to throw at it though! The AU/EL2 heads do have bigger valves already, you'd probably want to do a bigger port than $500 will get you though
EF intake will help too.

whats the chances of getting an ef cam in an au head

my crow st3 is coming in the mail this week and its ef\l cam

would the au valves go into the ef head or are mods needed to the head to fit them.

the AU Valves wont fit in an EF head as the valve stem on AU is 7mm and the EA-EF is 11/32 but you can buy larger XR exhaust valves from ED/EF XR heads from ford. they were 41mm instead of 39mm. dont put an EF cam in an AU head as you will chew the cam out. you will also need stiffer valve springs with that cam as it has a high lift and will place to much stress on the stock ones. just get an EF head and work it a bit to make maximum use of that cam.

inlet valves still remained at 47mm
just exhaust went to 41mm instead of 39mm

ef head
st3 crow
xr valves
stiffer and higher lift springs (from crow propably)
and a vernier cam gear

thats gunna cost a shitload :|

whats an approximate cost on the valve springs and xr valves ?

what about this then

EF XR Head (you get the bigger exhaust valves and better springs)
they also have different shaped exhaust ports and and dont have a build up of alloy around the valve guides allowing it to flow better.
and stage 3 crow with vernier cam gear.

yeah if you can find a XR6 head, I tried for like 2 months and came up with zero...every head place in melbourne who had one would only C/O....
