Not unless you've played with your ignition timing.

Re: PULP into an EBII?

When your ignition timing is advanced, it changes the timing of everything... spark, injectors, piston timing etc etc. When its advanced, it changes the timing of when the fuel sparks in the cylinder, when the piston is at different heights in the cylinder. It takes a higher octane fuel to burn more efficiently to prevent knock and pre-detonation (pinging) when the timing is advanced.

Re: PULP into an EBII?

You dont have to make any timing changes, but to get the best "Performance" properties from the fuel you can advance the timing.
But if you run it you should get better economy, and your car will run better after a couple of tanks.

Re: PULP into an EBII?

It runs better after a couple of tanks because the ECU adjusts the timing, only by a very small amount.

Re: PULP into an EBII?

And after those few tanks it should have hopefully cleaned the fuel system and combustion chambers a little.

Shell Optimax is the fuel with the most "detergents" in it, and generally you need to run three full tanks back to back to get the full advantage.

Oh, I'm not trying to start a "fuel war" either!
