1) Mandrel bent intake - who would be able to make these for me in perth?
2) Fuel pressure regulator - my car runs pretty rich especially at idle (Cam+Chip) - could I buy an adjustable fuel pressure reg to pull some fuel out of the mix? Opinions/Advice appreciated.
3) Leads - I have a pretty big cam with chip and all the rest, would getting thicker leads make a difference to spark etc also what about spark plugs. Is there anything else you can do to get a better burn?
4) Head shave - How much can I take off my AU head safely i've been told you can take 0.20thou off easily enough which will up the compression quite a lot.
Hope some of you's can help, just need to know before I spend the money
1) dunno i am not in perth
2) yes, it will enable you a more acurate fue/air ratio and tune
3) bigger leads = better spark, i got 9mm on mine even bofore i put my crow S3 in, dunno about diff, but never had it misfire, definately wont be a step back
4) i took 40 thou off mine
For the mandrel bent intake, speak to JMM or di filippo. Because they both post, and their pipes are fairly identical, and similar prices. ~$370 + shipping.

Waste of money really look good but my vinidex drain pipe works the same and made no difference.

This is a good thought. You need to get it adjusted on a dyno ( usually lower pressure works better) Go to Auto One about $90 with guage I think. The Malapasi stuff is good but exxy!

Good new stock leads are fine. Maybe a set of (JMM Dev spark plugs) Autolite 985's for fun. I didn't think they really worked but was surprised they worked at all as they were very different.

Compression on the AU head is high enough unless you've ported it and removed a lot. Compression isn't that bad on the AU I6. waste of money again.

jonbays:
i have to disagree in point 4 with you - 9.6:1 is a great starting point, but i have found further increase of compression ratio is very easily handled, even by the ECU and for 50 bucks decking i'd say it comes pretty close to bang for buck .. especially when u replace the HG anyway
I think if you're going to do the head get it properly ported and shaved to bring back the compression lost from the chamber shaping but going from 9.6:1 to 10.5:1 isn't really going to do all that much on a long stroke I6 engine.
If you could do it all yourself for $50 sure its cheap for a definite but small gain.
Still it puts you into PULP fuel so I am not sure I could be bothered spending the time and money on this.
$850 exchange buys you a JMM Street fighter cyl head if your really keen and that with a different cam only raises the claimed rwkw from 146 to 160. So how much is compression only going to give?
yes but how much work has a jmm street figher head had done... bit of a pocket porting and a chamber re-shape set of springs and retainers .... and probarly a good head shave...
For 50 bucks id get it done , not to much though. My 250 cross flow is running 11.5 and runs fine on pump unleaded. The secret is big comp big cam, the compression makes up for what you loose in cam overlap. im running a 260@ 0.050 cam. if i was running smaller cam it would ping like hell.
when you add your 4 things together i thinku will get a handy power/fuel economy increase.
3) if your original leads are stuffed which isnt uncommon, then new leads will make a good difference. 8mm is all u need really, but go the 9mm's if u can afford it. i got 8mm top gun's for $44 (EB) off a rack at Gibbo's on south street.
spark plugs - go to ford dealer and get motorcraft iridiums $10 each i think....havent got em yet but will soon. smoother running, better fuel economy, not huge increase but worth it id say, and i think they last heaps longer too
4) why not, at 10.5 running it on ultimate would giv best results. supposedly every point in comp raise gives approx. 3% increase in power.
20 thou sounds like a good amount, i dont know if it will apply to your head but on some heads if they are shaved too much, valve shrouding can result.
On the OHV I 6 this might work but I would not recommend it as worthwhile on the SOHC I6. Too much work for too little gain and it could very well ping its arse off or the ecu will retard the ign to buggery which the AU is prone to do.
