Rear Main seal

The bloody thing has just gone. Not happy. What I want to know is though, roughly how much would it cost to get it fixed, and also, will the clutch be screwed aswell from having all that oil on it? Finally, will it do more damage driving it to the mechanics (20kms) or should i have it towed?

The rear main seal is leaking or sweating? on my car too however i got told its common in falcons and commodores and not to bother fixing until i have to change my clutch as they will have to remove the gearbox to repair it and it will most likely start to leak again eventually anyway. I got quoted $400 and they told me it wont cause damage to any other parts of the car. Oh yeah mine doesnt leak as in doesnt leave puddles or anything even after the engines hot on a 28 degree day it just comes out real slow or something?? anyway i've been told not to worry about it at the moment

Nah, im pretty sure the rear main has gone completly, given the amount of oil it has left on the driveway after a short period of time., nothing slow about the way it was comming out:(

90% of the time you will need a speedi sleeve due to the crank having a slight groove on the running surface. The speedi sleeve only cost about $15.

If your car is manual I would change it yourself, just need something to pick the seal out and more gearbox oil. The clutch you will have to see when you yank it.

And a torque wrench for the flywheel bolts.
A suggestion - I know it makes the box harder to move out of the car, but try leaving the tailshaft in the back of the box. Just unbolt it from the diff and use some string to tie the front yoke to the box. That way you don't lose any fluid (or pour it on your head )
