Can anyone do a step-by-step run down on replacing the piston rings on an AU engine?

Reason I was asking is because I can get this engine cheap, and it has only done 100,000km. I thought it was kind of weird that the rings would go so early on an AU engine but the guy tells me 5-10% of all AU motors did piston rings due to some kind manufacturing error.

Can anyone tell me a rough idea of the cost involved as well?

Just want to see if it is worth it.

remove head
remove sump
loosen conrods
push pistons out of top of motor
get new rings - compress with ring compressor
tap pistons back in
do everything up to torque specs
replacing gaskets required of course

Don't forget to hone the bores! Otherwise, the new rings will not seat properly and it'll blow smoke and use oil from the first time you start it.

You can't give a estimate on a rebuild before disassembly.

We just pulled out a 351 clevo that bent 3 pushrods on the strip. Its for a friend of the boss so thoughts of doing it on the cheap came to mind but due to lack of momentary oil pressure we thought to pull it right down to check it properly. Good thing, the motor had oval bores, the valve springs were wrong, and someone smashed the pistons out of the motor with a screw driver and the pistons now bind on the gudgeon pins. This is not the same as you but you can seen what can happen upon disassembly.

And while uve got the head off a nice port and polish and maybe a bigger cam might be in order?

Don't forget to get the ring gaps facing away from each other!
