Got in the car today started it and it had the "TICK" ,usually it goes when oil pressure builds up but this time it didnt?
It is still ticking constanly ,very loud ,it vibrates and chugs under full throttle a little bit more than usual?
idling I cant tell as it has hunted ever since the dev3hl cam/valve springs went in 3 moths ago
I also changed the oil (helix plus green one) just 2 days before this started happening, so I'm left a bit stumped
what do I do to the old 3.9mpi
just get the rocker gear reco'ed ,does anyone know how much?
just do the lifters ? the bigger cam would have to cause more stress on these?
or drive it in the hope that it goes away?
its probably just your injectors.. take it into a ford dealer and get a carbon clean.. say you have noisy injectors..

Yer, im afraid it wont go away. When Lifters tick for a while before the oil pressure builds up, this means that oil has drained out of the lifter over a period of time. When they never build up oil pressure it means that they leak to much to build up the oil pressure and push the valve down = rough and vibrating motor. It could just be one lifter, it is just hard to spot. Start it with the rocker cover off at idle and try to track down which one/s it is. Have rags where you dont want oil to go. Then replace it. They are pretty expensive pieces. That, or your camshaft sprocket, chain, chain guides could be about to shit itself and this would be very very nasty. Take the rocker cover off:)

I'd be surprised if it was injectors given what you have said about the tick previously dying out as oil pressure lifts.
The lifters are easy to clean out, and I believe there's a thread somewhere on here with the part number for the rebuild kit @ about $12 to do all the lifters.
What grade was that oil?
A less messy way is to use a screwdriver as a stethoscope with the rockerbox still on, to try to identify where the ticking's coming from roughly. Then do it without the box, is a little less time spent spraying oil everywhere. But it's probably worth doing the lot while you're there IMO.
Worst case, it doesn't work and you spend like $50 on a s/h set of EF rocker gear. Meh.

Another guy on this forum who also has a DEV3 had the same thing happen on his car. Nasty tapping noises, turned out to be a broken tappet. The car was pretty whorey when I drove it, All fixed now though, I aint sure what it cost him.....
thanks guys ,
the sound is so bloody annoying and I dont want to damage the cam gear so
Ive decided to park it until I can find time to deal with it properly
mongrelEB the oil is the green helix 15/50 I must admit it was awhile between changes and the old stuff was pretty thin, I'm starting to think the new oil is too heavy for what it has become used to, It is a 130rwkw 250,000km engine that has had its neck wrung (definetly to much redlining) so it does need a decent amount of money spent on it
my edXR6 had a tick for ages (2 years+) and then one day it stopped and it still hasnt ticked again yet but I dont think the svo will be the same
thanks again
Ive still got the old oil I might run it through a filter and put it back in to see If it stops
or Ill just experiment with a few lighter oils, if this fails I think I might give up on the old EA for a while
I love it! but this car god damn shits me problem after problem
does it ever end?
TIKFD6 its of the topic but ,on the 15th if you do any runs with a passenger can I put my hand up for one I would really like to see what an ed manual goes like as compared to my auto
