I race a TE Cortina in Dirt track speedway, and i have been told that u can stroke the 250, but i am having trouble sourcing it, does any body know of where i can get a stroker kit?
we had a worked cam in the old motor but at Easter i punched 2 x 3 inch holes either side of the dip stick and broke the cam into 4 pieces, that motor was pulling around 5,500 revs, but my current standard motor only pulls 4k in any gear
Good Luck finding it. I rang Quick 6 and COME and no-one wants to know about it. I thought of a 265 Hemi or a Ford 300 crank but I think bore spacing might be different and the grinding and balancing would probably costs over 1 grand to do. They told me that an engine starting at 144ci stretched to 250ci would be the maximum as "The inherent vibration would be too much." I am sure a good crank grinder can do it for you. Again Good Luck !!!
i had herd that you could use 200 rods but im not sure what pistons you would need to use with them to lower the pistons from smashing into the Head.
we had thought of putting the EF 4lt into it but theres a lot of extra mods to do, and thought this would be an easier way to gain some revs and horse power.
The 250 is already a long-stroke motor, your not going to find a 'kit' to stroke it any longer and it isn't a very good way to achieve more revs in any case.
Thats interesting, maybe it is meant to de-stroke it to give more revs, not being mechanicaly minded this is all new to me, my partner in the race car is the brains behind the motor, we were talking last night and he told me that he can get an old 221 engine and transfer the crank and rods into the 250 block to give it a lot more revs.
Thanks for the offer of the rods but we got another old 200 motor sitting there in the shed awaiting its fate.
I basical put this thread up to get some ideas for our race motor, it interesting to see what other people think or what they have done, We do know of a guy that claims to be running a 250 on methenol and getting 7700 revs out of it in his race car, but hes spent a lot of cash on it and we dont want to run methenol
let me know what your want to get out of an old 250 as i built a couple of real quick ones and i can see if i can give you some help i still have complete motor and G/B in shed no carbies though (webbers) were stolen, still trying to get them found. speco thomas made a grind similar to a bathurst XU1 idled at around 1500rpm torque range 2500-7100 approx wich i did use some time ago was too big for a town car..... lol
we are trying to push the mid to high 6000 or at least keep it over 6k, but we have decied now to run the 2000 AU block which almost bolts up to the cortina sump, only have to redrill a couple of side bolts. and we are putting behind it a C4 Auto running a tap- no convertor.
So we should have some power now with the 6" rods over the older 5.88", according to Fords web page the AU motor has 220BHP and is only 5% less power than a 5 litre V8, but once we get a cam ground for it we should boost the power quite a bit.
What did u do to your 250 to get it to pull the high revs constantly?
Stroke??... 200 rods and (there are many) a piston with a higher pin height. This is a very common mod to the 250 to allow it to rev to 8k plus. The bonus is that it measures as legal by the scrutineer....
Depending on fuel you are running - methanol, avgas...You will need to do some extensive inlet manifold work though... extrude hone is the optimal, but expensive.
