I have an EF 6 cyl. and while it's idleing it has a ½ second suck or gasp for air every minute or two.
It sounds like a very fast opening & closing of the throttle and when it happens the revs pick up slightly.

Anyone got any thoughts on it?

Is it your A/C cycling in & out? When the A/C compressor cuts in, the idle is stepped up slightly & makes that gasping sound.

tufLTD, nope, it happens when the air is turned off.

DANGERXY, nope, it's not a continuous noise, just a very short suck sometimes.

INJECTED250, you have my attention.
Does it need attention, I'm sure my other EF doesn't do it or if it does it sucks silently.
Is this by-pass valve controlled from a sensor?
BTW, the car has cruise control & the throttle seems heavier than my other EF, could that have any effect if the cruise is sticky or screwed?
These are both new cars to me so electronics & fuel injection are black magic.

the valve is used to maintain idle speed.... Air conditining will cause it to open and raise engine speed slighly. Also a faulty power sterring pressure switch, will triger it to open and close for no reason.. AS the ECu thinks the steering is being turned and increases engine speed slighly to ensure the engine doesnt stall from the loading from the pump..

IT makes a hi pitched aIr rushing noise for a few seconds.. i wouldnt be concerned about it

The thermo fans coming on will cause the ISC to open up a bit more too.

yep, i agree, the p/steering pressure switches can do some weird things
