I’m now getting parts for the mpfi conversion. I have none of the parts yet. I will be doing the conversion with my Uncle who is a mechanic.
I spoke to a guy from a wreckers here in Perth WA, and asked him for a price on the parts. He said it is $210 for the air speed control sensor by its self. I then asked him for the rest and he said roughly $700-$800 I laughed and hanged up.
Is he right about the air speed controller or is he shitting to me?
I really want to do the conversion.
How much should I get all the parts for?
People that have done it, is it really worth the money and time spent?
how do i remove the throttle body i thoguht there woudl be bolts but they look like allen keys or somthing
..
Iam really confused about thistps thing. i understood before ya said to use my old tps .. cuase i though t u said that only haveing the one was cuaseing thr prblem
dont you already have the 3.9 harness ? from the engine that was in the car originally.
there should be two plugs on the harness for the 2 tps's see if you can find the other one hiding somewhere.
then you need the throttle body off the 3.9 with the two tps's in it.
use allen keys to undo it if you have to
Yeah the seperate harnes does goto the computer obove the break pedal so thats cool..
so what do i need to do. Can ya explain the process.
this is what i have 3.9ltr multi engine bay harness
4ltr multi engine, ingector, tps harness,
and thorttle body 4ltr one plug goes to a tps swtch
no other tps swtichs or plugs are there
Ok, i'll try and explain it again...
Your automatic trans on yer old EA CFI used its own TPS. It needs a TPS so it can tell how much throttle yer giving it so it can change gears at the right speed and load. Without it, the auto box thinks there is 0 throttle and wont kick down on throttle application. It will also not shift down gears at the right time or go into overdrive and lockup. On the EB2 4.0L version, the automatic ISNT controlled by a separete ECU like in yer EA, all the electronics are controlled directly from yer main ECU. Coz of this, the 4.0L doesnt need 2 TPS like on the EA... it uses the 1 TSP to control both fuel management and gear changes. Now keepin this in mind... You have now replaced your 3.9L CFI with the 4.0L MPI version. Coz u didnt change the gearbox aswell, the box still needs this extra TPS to help control gear changes. The TPS 4 the auto doesnt run from the standard EFI management looms... It runs its own harness to the auto, so you shouldnt have had to remove it.
If you cant locate the TPS connector then you have either cut it or removed the auto harness all together in which case it wouldnt work. You need to locate these 3 wires and add extra cable so it can reach the front of the engine bay where the throttle body is... now, yer right about the throttle body bolts... they need an allen key to remove the 4 bolts holding it on the manifold.. remove them and remove the throttle body. Do you have the old CFI TPS at all??? if you still have them, you can use them on the 3.9L MFI throttle body. They should each have 3 wires coming out the side and about 3 inches of cable, then the connector. You need to place the 2 TPS on the throttle lever and hold em in with 2 long screws.
once u got em on, connect the EFI TPS back up and then connect the other TPS to the extension connector u just made. It doesnt matter which one connects to what, they r exactly the same. Place the throttle body back on and connect all the other fiddly bits and then u should be right too go!
The wires ya talking about even the 3.9 ltr should be the same length hey cuase both 3.9 and 4 are up at same distance only from cfi to multi are diff but i cant use cfi becuase then there will be no plugs for the ingectors
Tim, the wires for yer auto TPS have nothing to do with either the 3.9L or 4.0L coz they are on a separate harness from the autobox. You wont find these wires on the main injector loom. The wires u need come from the left of the engine bay when looking in at it. The connector MUST still be there, if it isnt then i dunno what u have done too it hey!
Tim, when u get the throttle body, dont forget u need to lengthen those 3 blue/striped wires from near yer washer bottle so that the connector will reach too the TPS...
let me know how u go mate
