ok ive just fixed up head gasket
got a 2nd hand head shaved and stem seals,vrs kit, headbolts etc
put a 2nd hand timing chain on
reset all timing to factory specs
done transmission kickdown and full service
welch plugs etc

ok all goes smooth now transmission is as smooth as anything
got a little timing chain noise at 1500rpm (needs replacing eventually with a betta one)

all is good except one problem when the foot goes down it seems to surge a little bit my guess is air fuel ratio is wrong
when car is not underload it revs out fine just when ur going this happens

i should mention it is cfi
any suggestions and please no mpfi conversions as this doesnt fit the budget as how this needs fixing

throttle position sensor???

I'd set the timing going with TDC rather than using the cast timing marks. The harmonic balancer may have slipped (mega common problem) and your timing if set using the marks might be out. I learned this doing the head gasket on my old EA

Does she fart on hard deceleration?
It does sound like timing, at least that's what I'd look at first :/
Best way, as Rollin said, is to do it by ear - just put it in self-test and advance the dizzy until it reaches it's highest idle speed.

rechecked tdc with srewdriver yes thats fine with harmonic balancer, valves are fine, timings fine, have noticed when foots not completely flat it does feel better, ive started running a tank of injector cleaner in it checked fuel filter and replaced, fuel pressure is fine,
im going ot be trying another tps to see just incase it thinks throttle is not fully open
um basically if its not that im stuffed if i know
btw is there ne way of putting another timing chain on without taking off the head?

Yep - you can get a "roll-on" style chain that has a joiner link - the hard part is the frigging about to knock a link out of the original one if it's a continuous type (ie. so the roll-on one can be attached and "rolled on").

If you use a link type chain, make sure the circlip is fitted the right way around - the local Repco workshop did the head and fitted a new timing set on my car - a couple of weeks later I had the rocker cover off and noticed that one of the links on the chain where it came over the top of the cam gear looked odd - I inspected it carefully and nearly died when I realised I was looking at the joiner link about to come apart. They had put the circlip backward and it'd been flicked off by one of the guide plates.

Have you got the correct CFI inlet gasket (the paper thin one) not the 1/4 " thick MPEFI one fitted? Don't know what difference it would make as I've never seen a CFI run with the wrong gasket and the injector cutouts wouldn't cause a problem and the slight extra ength in the runners from the trhicker gasket shouldn't make much difference.

dunno pretty sure it was the cfi one at least thats what i asked for although culd be a difference
i thnk ive found the problem took one injector plug off the car died instantly
put it back on then took other one off and it ran for a while my guess is a faulty injector i will check as i have a complete injector housing
just finished running a tank of cleaner through with slight improvement but still enough to annoy you

all it needed was a good back road flogging
took it out to 160+ whilst holding 3/4 throttle it suged back and forwards and did this repetitivly, then it came good
im going to be pulling all the lifters out and cleaning them
but a big improvement
also did put another injector replacing dicky one but didnt do any different just gave a lil more fuel
