Hi all

i have a 96 xh ute s longreach with a tickford head (Big 'T' on front). I am about to tackle my headgasket (bit leaky) and thought i might tackle the cam at the same time, my only thought is i might already have a tickford cam, so does anyone know how i can identify what type of cam or would the tickford head come with the cam? not too savy on cams so any help would be appreciated. thanks

From the factory a Tickford cam should have some red paint on it somewhere - ie. in a band round one of the sections between lobes and/or bearing journals. There will also be part numer cast into it but I don't know what numbers mean what. Tickford valve springs will also have a splash of red paint on them.

look for DT on the cam somewhere. this identifys tickford parts. DA is stock. will probably be 94 DT or 95 DT.

Most Tickfors cams ive seen have the Number gound off and a Tickford number stamped in.

Measure the base circle of the cam.Measure the top measurement of the cam lobe.Subtract it get the final measurement and compare to your handbook..

Good point useless, whatever the cam started out to be from the factory u never know what grind it has on it without actually measuring it.

the base circle will tell u if its stock never been regound and the in and ex lift will tell u if its standard or XR6.
