LOL, believe me, I'd rather spend some time at home to drive the car. Even the guys I work with give me heaps about being away from the XR. Not much of a chance in the next couple of months though, I'm in and out of Darwin and Perth for a while.

Re: Turbo Kits for ye olde I6!

DUDE!!!!
Mock is making a supercharger kit, he's got 220rwkw with only 6psi....but he said there's still HEAPS of development....

the fact of the matter is, a cam and head mods will give you a fair power and torque increase BUT a turbo setup will give you maybe only the same power or even less, BUT it will give you HEAPS more torque and torque is what well be getting you down that quarter mile in a hurry :)

also I heard that the standard injectors can flow up to 200rwkws, out of a Falcon 6.

you have to realise that the mock kits will not change your insurance premium as there no way of telling that it's modded, unless you strip the engine down which the insurance company isn't going to do. this also applys to the police, they can't dyno your car so how will they know that it makes more the certain % more power it's allowed to and they just can't guess...."I GUESS you were doing 140 in a 60 zone" gees that hold up in a courtroom!! (my mum's a lawyer :))

Dave.

Re: Turbo Kits for ye olde I6!

i think you should all stop fussing over the mock crap, they aren't magicians are anything, they simply doing what you can all do yourself, except for the headwork. Thats the only part most of us can't do. But hey, buy a cam $170, vernier $150, extractors $300-400, 2 1/2 inch $200-400, filter $50, decent plug leads $100, thermos' (for pre ef) $150, etc. And get a cylinder head mob to port it and fit bigger valves $800, h/d valve springs $100.

And hey, for just over $2K you put out roughly 150-160rwkw. far above any mock kit for $2k

Just a thought for you blokes...

I think people are afraid of being 'mocked' if they do the work themselves. But I didn't realise the bits and pieces were so cheap - obviously the labour is a huge part of the bill.

Afraid of being mocked? I don't know how many of you guys are mechanics, but i am, and i feel, that there is no more satisfaction than doing the job yourself, If you put this together yourself, then you learn a shitload about your engine, you know what is in it, and you can brag to your mates when you tell them you made it work, it didn't cost an arm and leg, and when your dyno graph is above someone that has spent $3500+ at jmm, then it is the best feeling. You would have to be proud of your achievement.

thats my opinion

anyone who gets 'mocked' is being ripped off, and is the one who is too scared to do the work themselves, or likes the wank-factor of the JMM.

Re: Turbo Kits for ye olde I6!

I intend to run a sub 14 second pass in my EF falcon without taking the head off the engine or even having header pipes installed.
So far i ran 15.8@88 with a boot full of tyre/jack/tolls/pram/baby seat, left in drive and couldnt see the finish line.
Now i've done a few mods to it. Have to wait and see hey

Re: Turbo Kits for ye olde I6!

DUDE!! if you are going to make outragous claims like that, make sure you have the evidence to proof you can do it....don't make the claims before you can proof it....
you say you're not going to use extractor, change the diff ratios or the cam, so you're going to knock 0.9 sec of a quarter mile time with nothing more then CAI, a shift kit and weight loss??

well you could only knock off about 200kg MAX of the weight of an EF, in other word the weight of an EA....well Qwikcorty got a 14.7, but that's manual and has extractors and a cam. So even if you could get the weight down to a standard EA you would still need extractors, cam and (in auto form) at least 3.9 diff gears...

I'm not saying don't try, but if you want ppl to listen to you're claims, make sure you have the proof before you make those claims...

Dave.
