Gday! Well i was selling my car, but ill have to put that on hold. There is something seriously wrong with my car. IT has no power! Its a 91 eb 3.9 cfi Ive owned it 6 months, and compared to how it was when i first got it, now its a complete slug. Accelration is very poor, it hardly boots down, its slow to react. I floor it and sometimes it boots down very poorly, or it boots down to a ridiculous struggle and it makes a whole lot of noise and doesnt really move much faster. It has slowly deteriorated over the last month. I thought it was alright up until yesterday its just gotten worse. I go to give it a boot full around a corner or through a round about and it doesnt even get wheelspin. Its like when i turn the corner to do a bit of a skid, i flatten it, and by the time it does anything its already through the corner and going straight again. The car has only done 160thousand kays and i serviced it myself roughly 10k ago. It doesnt lose any oil or blow smoke either.

Could this be a tune problem? If i got it dyno tuned would this help?

I am unsure to what has caused this, could it be giving it a bit every now and then, or something like the kick down cable thing? Is this kick down electronic? A friend said that the kick down was a bit slow.... pff i dont know. We took the air cleaner off and drove it with no air cleaner coz we thort it might be air intake problem it seemed to get a bit better like that, and it also sounded cool as... but anyway its really bugging me and i want to nail it and get it fixed so im happy with it before i sell it. If someone could list the possibilities of what it might be and tell me the course of action id need to take that would be unreal.

Well first things first go to you local mechanic and ask him to run a > FAULT CODE EXTRACTION< on the ECU very simple for them to do. That will let you know if it is ecu related ie: sensors etc
If that fails ask him for some ideas
If you think it is your auto then go and ask a transmission mechanic

Make sure the accelerator cable is in good condition. I don't know how many people I'e talked to with the above you described. A simple replacement of the accel cable fixed it.

The heat from the exhaust cooks the plastic outer on the cable, then the exposed cable fails and it folds instead of pulling when you push the pedal down.

Sorry mate, couldn't help it. :)

First check your fuel filter, is it getting enough fuel?
Check the condition of the spark plugs for oil fouling etc
Check the auto trans fluid, is is red or black?
Is it overheating, losing coolant? It is pretty hard to diagnose faults on-line, without looking at the car.

I think you may have to invest the $$'s to have it tuned up.

If that doesn't help, then burn it.

I'd check timing and that the throttle is opening properly first up.

Could also be a collapsed catalytic converter.
