Is it just mine or are all Xr6 VCT engines not as torquey as HP or EL xr6 engines.

From 1000rpm to 2000rpm it feels as good but then a flat curve of nothng until 4000rpm,then it starts to pull again ,but its all too late.

My EL Xr6 would easily beat MY VCT of the mark and by the time the VCTs up to 4000rpm the EL has gone.

Whats every one elses observation on the 4.0ltr 172kw VCT.

Mine is bland at this stage...............................

I'll get the 70000ks service that might help abit maybe,but im gunna need more power here.

have u checked the manifold isnt stuck on short runners? it will cause a lack of low down tork.

yeh did that the minute I parked it in my drive.3800rpm the vaccum releases to open the runners.

it may just be its a smother power than the HP and the car being newer you dont feel like it going quick.
But it actually does feel like lag in a turbo.

i have a sneaking suspicion that your VCT solenoid might be stuck or not working, as i believe the rpm points you mentioned are about the parts of the rev range that the cam timing should be advanced/retarded, i think its not advancing or not retarding as it should.

discconnect the VCT solenoid and see if it goes any different maybe...i dunno how you would test it, disconnecting it might just bring up heaps of codes and the comp might chuck a spac and go into limp home or something...

Does any one know if this is OK to do? or is my cam going to smash to peices when I disconect it.

Com on fellas,Im interested to know what the rest of you think of the VCT engine compared to the HP xr6 engine and what you have done to improve bottom end torque which I think the VCT lacks compared to the EL xr6

mine doesn't lack for anything in bottom end torque. if yours does, i suspect you may have a problem. Perhaps take it to your dealer and get them to do a code check.

Yeh shes going in for a service next week,sometime , hopefully I get my lost KW back mid range,I need the clutch adjusted(hard to get into first),and my drivers seat belt doesnt retract.get this stuff sorted and I'll be happy with it.

booked the car in for next week,while I was at FORD,I bought a T-series intake pipe,nearly twice the size opening on it,its gotta be better for flow than the conduit size one fitted from factory.
feels a little torqueier low range.
