Hey,

The head gasket on my car has gone so the head is coming off to get everything sorted out. While its off i was hoping to get it ported/polished but i have no idea where to get it done or what it entails. Now i've read some of the pasts posts about this and i have some questions.

1. What workshops in perth have done this on the I6 head?
2. How much does it usually cost? a figure round 500-700 comes up a few times in past posts.
3. What exactly is the process in getting it done? Do you just walk in with a head and say port this and then pay them at the end? or is there differring levels of...portedness?

anyway thanks for whatever help you can give me.

1. Most workshops will do it. You don't have to specialise for a low-level port.
2. How long's a piece of string? Cost ranges from $300-$1500 depending on the job.
3. Yes. There are vastly different levels of portedness
Basically, are you going nuts, or just looking for a little more power? If just a little more, possibly a mild cam, then a basic port+polish will do you fine. About $3-$500.
If you're going nuts, you can look at bigger valves, more portedness , stronger valve springs, etc. Costs $$$.
Ring around engine/cylinder head reconditioners in the Yellow Pages and get a quote. Usually you fix a price first, then COD.

Yeah something pretty basic right now, i plan on getting a new cam soon (wade/surecam, whatever) not an overly wild one. But since the heads coming off i thought i might as well do something to it. And the price to clean it up a bit and get some more power is reasonable. Thanks for your help.

and i know you've used that peice of string analogy before.... :)
