Re: Wade Stage Two Cam Problems- Stalling!

About the plugs coming out black... My car always does this (with each of the 3 different cams i've owned) when the car is left to idle for too long, or when the car is left to idle when it's cold, or if the car is stopped and started a lot, or if the car has stalled a couple of times.

Basically, there are 2 things that cause it:
1 - At idle the plugs get fouled up with carbon because it is running so rich. This problem is even worse when the car is cold. So leaving it idle for too long (especially when cold) causes it to foul up the plugs.
2 - When the car stalls or is switched off, a heap of unburnt fuel coats the plugs (much worse when it stalls). This basically has the effect of flooding the engine. When the car stalls it may flood immediately, however it takes a few times switching the car off (before it warms up properly) to have the same effect.

Why it stalled and why it's not pulling I don't know, but I'd say your plugs were fouled because it stalled, and the time before that, when you came back after an hour and it started was because it was no longer flooded.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: Wade Stage Two Cam Problems- Stalling!

Oh, i should also add... unless you have a higher than stock compression ratio to make use of the colder heat range of the xr6 plugs, they will foul up quicker than the stock ones.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: Wade Stage Two Cam Problems- Stalling!

thanks for that info guys, but yesterday it stalled and didnt start 3 times on me so i gave up and put the original cam back in. i mean i understood that it will stall for a few days but not starting really got to me. i will leave it for a bit now and get it installed and re map the computer i think thats whats needed. as for the power with the original cam back in i do feel a difference, esp up high in the revs but not as much as i thought but yeah there is a difference, sounds alot different too. the car was running way too rich with the wade cam in it and now it just feels so much different, its alot smoother and doesnt smell like petrol! so why it was stalling and not starting still has got me stuffed. thanks so much for the info guys, id love to put this cam back in so any info on where i could get it checked out in sydney would be greatly appreciated :-)

Re: Wade Stage Two Cam Problems- Stalling!

yeah mate i didnt even reset the computer as soon as the stock cam went in it the idle didnt miss a beat... so i guess that explains it is the cam, as i though maybe its the plugs leads coil or distributor but i doubt that now. one thing though, the shims i put in it where the ones that came with it when i bought it which where smaller in diameter than the standard shims, as it was in an ef previously, should this have affected it you think??

Re: Wade Stage Two Cam Problems- Stalling!

Re: Wade Stage Two Cam Problems- Stalling!

I run 10mm diam shims without a hassle.
Do you have a vernier gear?
Was the cam dialed in correctly?
