Hey ppl,
Im wondering wat would be the best 4 barrel carby for my Alloy Head 4L Inline 6. Its in an XF ute. Would i need to change the inlet manifold? Or would i need an adaptor plate or sumthing?? Im lookin just for a replacement to get a bit more power. I dont want to do anything internally to the motor at the moment.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
been here... done all this... I went for a 465 holley carbie and got hold of a Cain 4 barrel Inlet Manifold to suit the 6 cyl. I am assuming its a 4.1 cross flow pushrod motor..?
With the above combination things should improve quite noticably. A different cam wouldnt go too badly either... but a std one should be ok if you dont wanna do any internals. there is a good chance You will increase fuel consumption tho.... and a dyno tune will be needed to straighten out the carbie properly...
I reckon a 650 might be slightly too big with std internals... I could be wrong... If bigger cam, higher comp and so forth then I would maybe go the 650....
However i have never tried it.... I have tried the 465... it works great...
Nope...the 4.0 sucks around 330 cfm at 5000 revs..so if the secondaries are tuned at this speed then that will provide enough theoretical air supply to produce more power

Honestly, u will not need any more than an ultra flow manifold with a 500 holley. If u know what ur doin, put a 500 top on a 350 base and stuff around with a few jet sizes and u will b far more impressed than ant 4 barrel.
a 465 holley is heaps better than a 500 holley . The 465 flows shit loads more air as there measured at less vacume . im pretty sure even a 390 4 barrle flows more air than the 500.. Ive seen 500 holleys on ultra flow manifolds, and the power these guys claim the manifolds make just isnt there and for the cost some 500 odd bucks go the redline 4 barrle
