I'm getting extractors put on my car soon, (I have been quoted $600 for extractors, a new cat and installation, is that good?) and I was also looking to get an air filter.
Can anyone give me some advice as to which air filter would be best for my car (I am getting these mods before the uni-chip)
I have a KN panel filter in my ute (AUII XR6 VCT ute), seems to do alright for the response, certainly doesnt hurt. KN seem to be the choice for most people (correct me if im wrong)...
BMC seems to be the pick from what I hear but on the other hand I've also heard people say that there's not a lot to gain by getting a better filter.
If possible I'd save up and get the rest of the exhaust instead

Yeah, I like mine cos its easy to clean - gets very full of dust and crap round here. It does make a little difference in throttle response, but yeah, nothing that'll make you go 'shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!'.
Well I tried all filter panel and snorkel combinations at WSID on Sunday and honestly the filter and snorkel won't make any difference to 400m track performance.
You might as well get a reusable filter as they are made better and made to last with long term cost savings but as a performance mod changing filters is very dubiuos.
There is an Autospeed article which comes to a similar conclusion too.
I read that K&N filters are merely re-usable and provide little or if any gain to performance, usually just the placebo effect on people.
BMC have proved their worth IMO so i went with them, havn't had a dyno run yet, but from other peoples rides i expect to gain up to 5rwkw just from the filter and AUII Snorkel upgrade, also sounds a bit gruntier too as the K&N does.
Everyone is going to have different opinions but in some case, its better not to go with whats on everyones shelf.
