i have a failry stock ea falcon (mpfi) and i was looking to buying a cam for some extra power.

the current mods are
genie extractors
2 1/2" exhaust
K&N Filter

i was thinking of getting an ef cam (similar to edxr cam) or an ef xr6 cam and rocker gear.
i was also thinking of getting a crow cam

which would you recomend.

EF serI cam will fit easily and cost you bugger all. You will notice the main difference will be uphill and pulling a load. She will be a bit quicker off the mark, but not that much quicker. Still, for $50, you can't go wrong! :)
I would suggest mild headwork, worth about $300 (plus gasket/bolts, another $70, call it $400), and the EF cam, total about $450 or so. IMO it'll give you better performance than the Crow cam for a similar or slightly higher price.

Best acceleration mod is definitely the driveline though. 5-speed and a 3.23 or 3.45 diff, you won't recognise the car!

how much would the 3.45 lsd off say an el xr (or whatever came with them) cost ?

also im getting a bit of noise (ticking) from the rocker gear so would i be better off getting ef xr cam and rocker gear together or just "fix" the problem and go ef cam

would there be much difference with the ef xr cam and rocker gear VS the ef cam and regular rocker gear?

AU and ELII cams will not fit Evilchief, you'll destroy your rocker gear if you try as the lifts etc are all different - too big. You could use it if you had the AU rocker gear though AFAIK....

EF XR rocker gear is the same as the stock rockers, the springs and cam grind are different though. If I was you I'd rebuild my existing lifters, the kit is apparently about $12 to do the whole lot from Repco, there's a thread on here somewhere which gives the part number.
3.45 LSD - depends who your mates are, I can get one for $500 but most people would expect to pay $800-$1000, so not cheap. Another way to do it would be to get an old 2.77 LSD or something from an EA Ghia and recentre it, my brother was looking at this and the recentre job was going to be $500. 2.77 diffs aren't worth a whole heap, maybe $100 or so, so is a bit of a saving :)
Look, the EF XR cam would give you a noticeable difference over the stock EF cam, depends which way you want to go really. Personally I'm a bit leery of camming a stock head as it won't use the full potential of the cam. You can do it, and you will get a gain, but I recommend you port the head first. Even if you don't cam it at all you'll still notice a huge improvement; particularly past 4500 where the power *used* to peak

Ruger, go a Crow, but get the heads done and most definately get it tuned properly. Seriously consider a chip too...to get max gains from those mods.

I know it's probably more than you wanna spend but the gains are worth it.

i guess the saying 'do it right or do it twice' comes into effect here

A) buy an ef cam - satisfied with increase for $$
b) gets bored of ef cam
c)gets heads worked - wont go well unless i get crow cam
d) ditch ef cam and get a crow
e) stock ecu dosnt let it run right so i get an aftermarket one.

thats most propably would happen.
if i dont get impatient and i save for a crow cam 1st i can whipe out a and b

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but I have a EF I-6 and im considering putting a cam in it, It has exhaust, cai, etc what cam would be good for me?

How much power do you want?
Best bet would probably be a Crow or a JMM cam I guess, I believe there is an ongoing debate about JMM's power claims but I don't think anybody denies they're a very good cam for a little less than Crow.
