I recently just got a XR6 VCT and i am looking at getting more power. I would appreciate any help on what i can do and what products to use. From what ive heard its a difficult motor to get more out of?

Yep, its a bitch! I'm looking at a heap of different options myself for mine. Forget exhaust I think, it's just not something thats a huge success with the usual brands. I'm looking at a couple different types of extractors but have yet to get any real firm evidence that they are the go. On thing that does appear to work is a unichip to get the fual/air mix better.
Let me know how you go, I'll do the same as I discover more.

iv put on my vct 2002,4480 pacemakers, nice 3 inch directly behind the round lights as there got plenty of fresh air coming just from headlights, and were you think air would come in, you want bottom end from Start to 60,top end these cars just want to Keep going, lol! Yeah mate bottom end,, From there she goes, just my 2 sesonds worth, hope all goes well, probably by know your rite,if you did, let us know what you have done, Cheers ✌,once you try ford you don't go back! Ford XR6 🏆
Why would you not add extractors and exhaust just because its a VCT??? I know someone who has a VCT and they added extractors and 2.5' exhaust and they were very happy with the difference.

I have spoken to a number of people who have fitted extractors and cat back exhausts to their VCT's and as yet none of them have gained any power. Sound is improved no doubt however the actual power increases have been little if none. There is a case where power was even lost.
As odd as it may seem, this is one case where the factory exhaust system is more than capable of handeling the needs of the engines exhaust. Remember that from the cat back the VCT has almost an identical exhaust system as the AU XR8.
By all means fit an aftermarket exhaust but just be aware that on the dyno and the 1/4 mile the difference has proven to be virtually nil. Sounds great but no real power increase.
Dont believe me? Feel free to PM JC or Black XR6 VCT, they have both done it and will tell you the same story.

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you guys. I brought a 2001 XR6 VCT about a month ago and I have been trying to find any mods that work on the VCT. The only one that I have found apart from the unichip is the air intake piping. But on what I read I'm a little confused, the list below is what I think people reckon works.
1, T series falcon snorkle
2, EF falcon air box lid
3, BA falcon pipe from air box to throttle body
4, some peole say change the exhaust and others say to leave it alone, just remove the resonator box at the back for a better sound
If anyone can steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it
I don't know???? I read here somewhere that the EF pipe was better than the AU but somebody replied that the BA had a better air box to throttle body pipe.
If anybody has done these mods could they post some pictures to save the confusion
Yeah, any improvements on intake cant hurt. I have the T series intake on mine too. Looked at a BMC filter but at the moment I'm not really sure it will make a hugely noticable difference so I havent tried it.
As for the exhaust, the 2.5" would sound good for sure but I think that as much can be gained just by replaceing the cat with a hiflow model and the mufflers with some nice straight through jobs. Oh, and get the H pipe removed at the tip. I have twin tips on mine, sounds heaps better.
Apart from that the unichip or XEDE chip may be the next big improvement short of a turbo.
The panel filter makes a noticable difference.. Not pin you in the seat but bit better pickup...Engine breathes better...
I fitted one in my wifes ute, she has the XR6 HP and we have noticed the difference there aswell, just got to put the bigger intake on hers and then they will be the same setup. She has a 2 1/2 from the cat back aswell.. But heres sounds a lot more meaty then mine, not sure if its the pipe or the fact that the try amplifies it...
What is it with the VCT that make exhaust mods so had for gains??
I have never been able to get a straight answer on that, if I could find that out I could work out exactly what sort of extractors would best compliment the engine.
I do believe that the stock exhaust from behind the cat is a very good system being twin pipe though.
I'm bloody tempted to try and talk to an engineer or someone at FPV who has some knowledge on it to find out if they can be of some use. I'm sure they tryed a few different things and may know what would work best.

It's not difficult to get more out of the VCT. Don't listen to those who can't, listen to those who DID.
I have a Ghia VCT. At Pulse Performance in Newcastle I had Genie extractors fitted, cold air induction, K&N filter, 3" stainless induction pipe, 2 1/2" stainless cat back, hi-flow cat, hi-flow muffler, and a Chiptorque chip. I had the chip tuned at Silverwater Automotive Services in Sydney. It dynoed at 144.1 rwkw in shootout mode. And it's an auto.
If you like I can give you more details of the process, post pics of what we did to the motor. I got the dyno sheet too, I can scan and post that. My car is absolutely quicker, has more torque and more power than before. I can tell you from real, first-hand experience that you CAN get a sh*tload more power out of the VCT motor.
I for one would be very interested in hearing in detail what you have done and seeing pics. PM me if you want but I would very much like to hear what, how much and your opinions on each mod. This is the sort of detailed info I've been after.
Btw Casper what sort of times do u get for 0-100. I timed myself the other night and got a 7.5 - 8, did it a few times and got the same results. I dont know what this crap is about 8.5 and higher. But i have to give it too her abit before it starts performing, these arnt the sort of car you can just start up and get a good time with, u need to thrash it first then its a different story
Forte's do not have the VCT engine, it was only in the Fairmont Ghias, Fairlanes and XR6 VCT. All the other I6 Falcons had the Standard I6 except the XR6 HP which had a uprated I6.

The only time I've had it properly timed was at Heathcote where I had some issues with bad fuel. Since then I've had it dynoed and found that I probably have a issue with a clogged or collapsed cat so my car is not up to full performance at the moment.
I'll probably take it for a run at Calder on the 16th with decent fuel to get an idea of how far down on power it is still. Basically, my car needs to have whatever issue it has correctly diagnosed and hopefully fixed before it gets back to even stock performance.

Hi, It's great to hear from someone who did. sorry it's taken so long to reply but my internet broke down (must be holden)
I'd would be very interested in seeing some pics if you can post them of the mods you have made, like the cold air induction, 3" stainless induction pipe, Genie extractors. The cat and the exhaust can wait awhile yet.
It doesnt matter, you do the mods to your forte and you will be very impressed over the stock performance. I raced the above mentioned XR6 VCT ute and as mine is an auto (hers is a manual) i beat it off the lights and when she got going it caught up and went 1/2 a car infront and that was the difference. 1/2 a car.The VCT ute goes as hard as my mates VS 5.0L manual ute that has extractors and exhaust.
