Ok...so far got mums EL Gli WAGON to keep lineball with VR sedans. Everything done is invisible- 98 Octane petrol, indexed and regapped spark plugs, new filter. I was wondering if there is anything else invisible that i could do without opening up engine bits. Also..does the XR8 snorkel make that much of a difference? As its obviously a "performance mod" and if i crash it, insurance ppl may not be pleased...but how displeased would you expect them to be? I dunno if they could even tell the difference to the standard but i dun wanna take any risks.

dudes and dolls- its my mums car...i think that says enough about what i can do to it.
Also....i'm a poor poor uni student....
About the only non obvious thing i can do to it is the XR8 snorkel. I've already made myself a piece that leaves the airbox and bypasses those restricty bits further down the way (AFTER the air box)...but a design fault cause it to crack...but it did work in my mates car- he "placed and order" for one...but its not like i can do that to my mums car is it....i need subtle stuff.

next time she takes it in to get serviced, i reckon you should give the mechanic a bit of cash and a cam and get him to put one of them in - your mum wont even notice it, cus being a mum it will be lucky to go over 2500rpm...right about where ull start to feel the power
thats gonna achieve WAY more than a snorkel and a hell of a lot more subtle...in fact, ABSOLUTELY undectable by an insurance compnay (not that they will really stress over a different air intake)

yeh a xr8 snorkel wouldnt be that obvious at all, insurance definitly wouldnt pick it out. just get the one without the tickford wing on it. i think that might be the EL xr8 or EL GT one? dunno

I say throw a mild cam in it, as stated it will cost about $150, give a better increase than any intake snorkel could provide and will not be noticeable from the outside

hmmmm...my mum does give the car the odd thrash...and when pushed, she will race other ppl...but i'm not too sure about a cam...what if it causes problems like we've all seen in this forum? How could that be explained to her?

Get the EL XR8 snorkel. It looks exactly the same as the standard one, only a little bigger and there's no Tickford wings in sight. If the car is really healthy you should be beating VR sedans, not just keeping up with them.

u could get a cheap second hand ef/el xr6 cam, u then shouldnt have any problems with it idling rough. etc.

Really? even with VR's being the fastest of that series (some even faster than VT's?)
I do have alot o extra crap in the back...mum insists on it being there...at least i'm set if i get stranded :)
..also remember its a wagon. Mates sedan is marginally quicker and prolly would have beaten the VR/VS whateva
