Re: what head gasket to use for AU head onto EB block, and EB head onto AU block?
ask joe? lol...im in constant 'discussion' with him about practicality and possibility of many many ideas and mods that we both come up with...
6 pac are you sure that the AU head is ok on either? i was under the impression that oil/coolant passages are slightly different between AU and the rest?
also, what head bolts? AU ones fit in previous model head/block combos, but what about previous bolts in AU block?

Re: what head gasket to use for AU head onto EB block, and EB head onto AU block?
Well dude you of all ppl now you shouldnt reuse these head bolts but if you have some new E series ones, i would just check to see if it is possible for the bolts to bottem out in the cavity in the block (if this is possible i dont know) to ensure correct torque levels are attained.
With regards to the head, if the passages were that different you wounld be able to use the gasket on previous models. I also ran the idea of an au gasket in my ed with the ford tech guys and they said if you came to us for a headgasket repair job they would just use an au gaskety anyway regardless.

Re: what head gasket to use for AU head onto EB block, and EB head onto AU block?
au heads and blocks and be matched to older blocks and heads, the au head gasket can fit to all e-series engines,
i layed over a eb gasket onto an au head, nothing fouled or blocked anything at all,
with au head bolts, the only difference is that the front 2 head bolt washers are a smaller in size compare to the older models. they are the same length and diameter.
the only issue is that the rockers and valve springs are installed at different heights, requireing shims to get the proper installed height.
cheers.joe.

duh. i meant what NEW bolts should i buy? enough EB ones to screw togather two engines or enough AU ones to do the same? EF ones have a habit of breaking im told, what about AU? the same?
AU head gasket looks like a goer then, but in all likelyhood i wont get genuine anyway.
joe - the springs and rocker gear and crap will not be removed from the head - i am swapping one complete head to another engine and vice versa, rocker gear will stay firmly in place :D
will i see you on the christmas cruise tomorrow? tues the 16th at 7:15 at roma st parklands...i the EA registered????

Re: what head gasket to use for AU head onto EB block, and EB head onto AU block?
I've got an EF head on an EA block, with EF head gasket and AU head bolts. Ford sells the same head bolts for all the 3.9/4L engines. The part # is AU6065A I think. I got a complete set of head bolts for about $60 or so at trade price, retail would be about $75-$80 I think.
Re: what head gasket to use for AU head onto EB block, and EB head onto AU block?
